RIP Puppets Jazz Bar. It closed a week or so ago. Jamey, the drummer/owner put his heart and soul into that place and it showed. I don’t know a jazz club that was more welcoming to both its performers and paying guests. It offered off-hour slots to younger players to give them a chance to play, and had a great monday night jam session. It was not a top tier venue, and even jazz fans were unlikely to have heard of some of the headline performers but music was routinely great and played with a lot of passion. Unfortunately, I think jamey put too much $$ into making the place nice and rent was too high given the economy, location and size of the audience for the music. We’ll miss it in the South Slope and I hope Jamey lands on his feet with a new venture.
kens — situation not great. I assume you know the ULG locations and are looking for something better. Union market sells pints of Blue Marble for too much money. Lia’s on 16/PPW may be a little better than ULG. 5th Ave below 9th, you are stuck with soft serve and a flavorburst twist at Princess Pizza.
Hey Slopey, is there any Blue Marble type ice cream places in the south slope/greenwood height vicinity? I really wanted some good ice cream the other day and couldn’t think of any place clsoe to me.
Kens, I hear Casa Snappy is fully stocked with primo ice cream – just have to get past the kitty patrol
that sounds like it was a great place, Slopey.
ULG = Uncle Louie G.
Eh, I want like a real ice cream shop, not one within Pizzaria or a Baskin Robins. What’s ULG?
Meanwhile, I’ve been meaning to post this:

no wonder those damn yogurt places were openning up like wild weed. The margins before tax is like freaking 50%
