Jessi, never boned my PhD friend at all nor have I ever wanted to. The thing is that she (phD friend) is very good looking (5″7, blonde, blue eyes, very nice body) but honestly not my type at all. I think the girl was just threatened and if it was a 400 pound friend, she wouldn’t have said a word.
“On the broader topic, I never really understood how much Americans fixate on gasoline prices, when they make up relatively small percentage of the costs of car ownership and usage.”
This is a much bigger issue to Americans throughout rural and subrban USA. $80 to fill a tank is quite a big deal to many people.
And with Lech- a clean break is the best way. Tell her goodbye quickly and clearly. Don’t stick around for her schtick- you know she will use it on you. You’re doing her the favor of telling her to her face. Considering how she treated you, you’re being far more respectful to her than she was to you.
The other thing is that sometimes are raised to see relationships in terms of power. It’s all about who can control whom. I know couples where one or the other partner is controlling- and when their control is challenged, the relationship blows up. I won’t ascribe that kind of attitude to one group or another but when I was growing up I was shocked at the advice some of my girlfriends got from their mothers regarding marriage and how to manipulate their husbands. And no doubt Dads gave similar to their sons.
m4l, I have heard people complain about the asymmetric movement of oil and gas my whole life, but every time I have tried to find data to back it up, where little evidence I could find was mixed or inconclusive.

the OT is producing some remarkably sane advice today… I wish I’d consulted you guys before pussy footing my way through the last couple break-up’s!
Kensingtonian, I completely agree with the direct approach people above. easier said than done, but everybody ends up better off that way. she’ll be pissed at you no matter what, and at least being direct doesn’t insult her intelligence. we all know that being really nice and providing comfort is often just a selfish attempt to keep her from hating you. if you walk into the conversation with a clear conscience (she sounds batshit), you can walk out with a clear conscience.

Um, OK well I wouldn’t want my sister or daughter to be a stripper but I have no problem patronizing strip clubs.
Are the experiments in polarity helpful in this regard? They might also be helpful in preventing the children from becoming AC/DC.
Thanks all once again!

bxgrl, you have some splainin’ to do.
I saw a woman who looks exactly like you at the W Hotel on Union Square at 10:30 last night. And I know it wasn’t your sister.
And don’t even TRY to deflect by going on the offensive and asking me what I was doing at the W Hotel on Union Square at 10:30 last night.
Scott, I fill up the car every 3.5 days so I can speak from my own experience, it’s assymetric
“Eminem is a misogynist jerk, to say the least. Would anyone like their sister or daughter to be talked to like that?”
