Simply put,
since the 80’s, the so-called “rich†have paid a steadily
increasing percentage of the nation’s tax revenues. The
trend has been relentless and it has been material. For
example, considering the taxes paid by the top 1% of the
nation’s wage earners and that paid by the other 95%,
the trend is clear.
In 1980… and we are rounding here for the sake of
clarity… the top 1% of the nation’s top income earners
paid in approximately 19% of the total tax revenues into
Washington D.C. while those in the 95% “bracket†paid
in approximately 62%. By 1990, the top 1% were paying
in approximately 22%; while the 95%’ers were paying in
55%. By the turn of the century, the top 1%… those who
are accused of not paying their fair share… were paying
in approximately 37% of the total tax revenues paid into
Washington with the 95% were paying in 44%. Can you
see the trend here? For the 1%, their share of the total
taxes paid was rising steadily; for the other 95% it was
falling… just as steadily.
By ’08, the top 1% were paying in approximately 39% of
the total taxes; the 95% group was paying in
approximately 40%. We will give the Left one point
however: for two years… ’06 and ’07… the top 1%
actually did pay in more than the 95% did, and in ’08 that
shifted every so modestly.
Yeah, that’s right, DIBS! But two going on three wars are ok!
There you go again. How about the current administration, YES, CURRENT administration do something about what seems to be under their control since Jan 2009.
But please, feel free to continue to blame everything on Bush going well into 2015.
Until the Republicans at least acknowledge the enormous increases in defense spending over the last decade, I refuse to take their cost-cutting talk seriously.
I also feel that their zero tax increase position is not logical, based on past tax rates and current rates in other countries.
On the other hand, the Democrats have even less budget credibility in my book.

Well, US corporate rates are exceeded ONLY by those in Japan, no other country.
And wait for my next post…….
Republicans are for the corporations!
They just want to take from the poor and elderly,
no heart at all.

if nostalgic for 1960 – care to tell us what tax rates were than?

And if tax cuts to i-bankers would fix it, Boehner would have a solution.
Pithy and trite. Typical of a Democrat’s response.
Yeah, that’s right, DIBS! But two going on three wars are ok! Trillions on that bullsh*t are fine! But feeding people and creating jobs aren’t! LOL!
