There was an *awesome* kinkaid show in CA (SFMoma?? I didn’t see it) that produced this totally amazing catalog which manages to perfectly walk the line between documenting his work and completely making fun of it.
The epitome of which, imho, was the frontispiece: the Thomas Kinkaid Visa card. What more perfect distillation of the man and his work could you ask for?
bfarwell, I so wanted to snark on Thomas Kinkaid late Friday, but I didn’t have the ego strength and didn’t at that moment want to look like a total elitist crank.
Once I met someone who I dated a few times — very nice looking, professional guy, but he thought that Thomas Kinkaid was an artist and I started feeling sickish and saw at that moment this relationship was not going to work. 🙁
I went to Brooklyn Museum to see the “Big” exhibit, which was a collection of design objects from its own collection, saw the “mushrooms” exhibit and a Tipi exhibition (American indians art/design). This wasn’t my idea, but I went along with it. I am not going to descend into snark so early in the week, but let’s say that I still think Brooklyn Museum really needs help. The large “mushrooms” installation was interesting though.
The person I want to send DeLepp to is an expert and if she can’t help him directly, can direct him to the proper expert. These things trade to a premium to the gold price, you just need to get some advice on what that should be.
Regarding Thomas Kinkade, how can you say that someone who lends his name to animated Christmas village sets found in SkyMall is not a true artist?

Yeah, bfarwell, but the curatorial staff at Brooklyn has a special education orientation and ignores its own collection.
