  1. I also have a big problem because my lousy public speaking is totally at odds with my persona in smaller groups. People expect me to be a really animated and strong speaker because that’s how I tend to be in smaller settings, and I know that’s what they expect. So I end up standing in front of a big group of people trying to live up to the expecations that I have already built up for them. That really makes it worse, because then I’m aware that a public speaking fail will then have the secondard consequence of tarnishing my private speaking image. Mouth goes dry, mind goes blank….

  2. The Champs appear to be incredibly good at chess. They’ve actually both beaten me in a couple of games, although that likely says more about my poor play than anything.

Coincidentally, I was looking online this morning for chess clubs for them to join. Although after Lech’s postings, I’m a tad concerned The Champs may end up getting grouped in with LARPers, goths, Emos, steampunkers, and gamers.

I also played chess over lunch with my date yesterday.”

Did you put her in a mate position?

Did she do an abolute pin against your king to prevent you from exposing your king to check?

Did you allow her the first move advantage and did she do a flank opening?

Did you engage in positional play or a short-term attack?

Did things end in a stalemate?

  4. I am a mediocre public speaker, and I hate doing it.
I think my big problem is similar to lechacal’s in that I try to over complicate things by speaking to every single individual instead of the average.

  5. I never did LARP, although I did pencil and paper roleplaying well into my late 20’s, and would probably get into it again if I had the time and right group of people to play with.

Almost everyone I played with believed that drinking was a key part of the experience.

    I am definitely a nerd.
