  2. Austin is very pretty and a liberal enclave in a state which is pretty red. It has a more attractive climate, lakes, hills and is home to UT main campus. I did a consulting project there once. It’s nice. Also, big music city. There is a huge live music district. People ask one another what instrument they play as a matter of getting to know one another.

    Houston much better than people think (lots of money for the arts), but big urban sprawl and the most screwed up weather ever. Easy to get a job.

    San Antonio, relaxed, post military main presence there, it has become a convention capital. I go there once a year. I have cousins there too.

    Dallas is like NY in a lot of ways but women get dolled up to go out to buy milk in a very finished way.

    In every one of those cities, you will be called either sir or ma’am.
