Operation Eagle Claw was Carter at his worst. One thing that sticks in my mind from that time – when the planning was going on, Carter insisted that the special ops people find out if the Iranian guards at the embassy were volunteers or draftees. If they were the latter, he insisted that our folks be given a shoot to NOT kill order when engaging them.
Since Obama has been compared with Jimmy Carter, I remember if anyone remembers his failed attempt to rescue the Iranian hostages. Which also involved downed helicopters, in an eerie coincidence.
A lot of people thought at the time had the mission succeeded, he would have been reelected.
arkady, Hasselblad a medium format camera not large format. Lareg format cameras are those funny box things with the bellows that you see on tripods.
Hasselblad built a special camera for the lunar missions. They had a large shutter release so they could be operated with gloves and of course a built in motor drive. They had a large film back as standard back for these cameras is either 12 or 24 exposures max. You can see the history at http://www.hasselblad.com/about-hasselblad/hasselblad-in-space/space-cameras.aspx
A variant of the ‘moon’ camera was released commercially as the 500 EL/M. Ironically they’re not held in high regard due to electronic and longevity issues. There’s one on ebay right now with a lens and a price that makes the camera body essentially free.
Bimbo #1, it’s entirely possible I posted something about you in the Trophy House thread > > >
As I mentioned above, helicopters are inherently unstable, from an aerodynamics POV.
Denton, I remember that, and was thinking about the helicopters that crashed in the desert in Iran, when I heard that in today’s news reports.

I, just barely, remember that, denton. I was in my senior year of high school.
Do combat helicopters have a higher fail rate than other military equipment?

I was always more a Mamiya and Rollei guy myself.
