“Maybe you should have stayed longer. You might have made some money. However, if you think the markets are stupid, best to stay away for your own financial interest and leave it to the stupid people.”
Well, I think the markets are amoral and prone to irrational behaviour, both of which seem stupid to me. The Markets are about making money. They do that. I don’t particularly care about money. Sure, it underlies lots of stuff, but so does air and altruism and violence and any number of other things. It ain’t a priority.
However, that’s sort of beside the point: Vast swaths of the market have behaved stupidly over and over again (as should have been pointed out way back whenever whoever was bitching about liberals not learning their lessons) from tulips to tech to housing to whatever will be next. They’re not necessarily smarter (some is, some ain’t), just higher paid. As my friend the retired-at-35 banker says, it was the most money for the least work he’d ever seen.
I don’t see prices in the type of Brooklyn housing I am interested in moving much in the next few years, and in the short term the rent vs. buy financials for me are pretty much break-even.
In the mean time, I am making a good return on my investments and putting plenty away every month.
My current assumption is that when my current lease is up in 2 years, I will buy something.
“Meh, there are plenty of rational left wing socialists. Europe has a bunch. Much as there are batshit irrational corrupt rightwing capitalists”
As far as I can tell,
no rational left wing socialist ever gave me a job.
So I think I’ll stick to the “batshit irrational corrupt rightwing capitalists” for now,
thank you very much.
…Kristina Kirchner called, she said you can move down to Argentina any time, but you’ll still have to keep the music level down, clean up the hallway and don’t worry, she’ll have someone take the money for rent from your paycheck directly.
P.S. learn Spanish or else!
“Wrong, my friend. I was staring at a hot woman ahead and when I looked left, I couldn’t tell if it was really you or not. I was in full stride so I just gave you the V for victory sign.”
jester, I was just joking. Trying to see if my post would draw you out of the OT shadows is all. I was walking home via the Bridge.

I’m happy to rent for another couple of years.

“Liberals are the foot soldiers for socialist/communist dictators.”
And there’s a perfect example of what I mean.
now who’s redistributing stupidity?
