Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all real and honorary Irishmen out there! Let’s not forget that March 19th is St. Joseph’s day, for all the Italians out there.
I’m enjoying all the on-line photos. Unfortunately, there are no on-line photos of me. If I had to describe myself, I might say that I look slightly like Abe Vigoda, only with a moustache.
mopar- it really sucks, considering you are paying your own heat and your own repairs. Can you tell her there are things that need fixing before you accept an increase? Sometimes – especially if you are doing repairs that the landlord by law should have done, you have some bargaining power.
In my old apartment the bathroom had been let go for years. I asked repeatedly to have it fixed- the landlady said yes but her son, who did all the maintainence kept putting me off. Finally I called him and sid- there are wires hanging out of my light, tiles fell of the walls, the floor is cracked. I will call the Fire Dept and Con Ed if you don’t get in here. They were there the next we and gutted it to the lathing. They had to give me a complete redo at no extra rent because the bathroom was so bad.
There are repairs a landlord is obligated to do- you do have rights too.
Rob, could you be a secretly in-the-closet straight guy?
When you were really drunk at the last Brownstoner gathering, you touched me inappropriately. Before we met. You were so gone, you may not remember. I thought of this when you mentioned being thrown out of the lesbian bar.
Are other tenants in the building willing to protest the rent increase? Perhaps if she had an entire building of people saying they will leave if she increases the rent she’ll think twice. It’s one thing to replace one tenant and another to replace an entire building full.
She wants $50 a month more. We just moved in a year ago. All my other landlords have waited until the second year before raising the rent. If she maintained the building, I wouldn’t mind. It’s disgusting enough that we would move in a heartbeat if we could, even if she didn’t raise the rent. But we’re still looking for a place to buy and want to be month to month.

The plot thickens.
Oh my. Rob? What did you do to Mopar?

Identical mirror-image – I’m lefty, he’s righty.
We’re identical.
