Rob, middle school and high school kids text constantly. When I was a kid we used to talk on the phone (landline of course!) but they don’t talk nearly as much as they text. So you gotta have a plan!
oh lol i didnt call your kid ghetto. btw that is a good plan.. if i talked or texted more i would opt for something like that, but for what i have now it makes more sense economically.
Rob, I pay $25/month for my daughter’s service. 300 minutes of talk (she usually uses 200), free texting, free internet. And it’s an android phone so she has gps!
speaking of… why does every ghetto kid in nyc have a phone that is 100x more expensive than me? and they text non stop? that shit is expensive! their shoes are way more expensive too. and their bags. not to mention pretty much everything they are wearing, none of it’s from the value stores. then i see them spending 5 bux in the morning on junk food. and they all have free student metrocards! im all for free student metrocards, but im sorry, where the fuck is all this money coming from?
m4l, if you get a virginmobile phone, buy it via the website. It’s much easier to return it if you get a dud than if you buy it in Target or Radio Shack. Free shipping and they usually have better sales than in the stores.
Juliette is very happy with her Samsung Intercept which is down to $200 on the website. She really likes the actual slide-out keyboard. But they have an LG android phone now with no phisical keyboard that gets better reviews.
slopefarm, my grandfather from Odessa always complained that he couldn’t find chicken feet in Manhattan or, later, Queens. Now I could tell him that he just needed to go to Harlem or Chinatown. Oh well, he’s gone a long time! He once wrote a letter to Karl Ehmer (the German meat entrepreneur) requesting chicken feet and Karl wrote him back that the regulations made it too difficult to carry them. Apparently there’s no such problem on Mott St. or Bed-Stuy.
Oh, she’s on AIM when she’s home with the computer! And lots of Facebook messaging. And videotexting!
true true. i was more of an IRC/BBS, and AIM IM person back in the day tho. The lost the generation between landlines and cell phones.

mmm, I am stuffed.
I highly recommend Nom Wah Tea Parlor for Dim Sum.
It has more of an old-school feel to it, and the food is great.
