  1. Denton,

If you have a LOT of time but want high quality commentary and entertainment before your root canal, I would recommend my endodontist. That guy is the man, he is a riot. (Very good dentist too).

  2. What I wore to the Easter Vigil Mass at Queen of All Saints on Saturday night:

    Sweater with T-shirt under it.
Wool pants with tights under them.
    Wool long coat
    Wool scarf

For those who have never been in there, QAS is a stunning Catholic Church in Fort Greene, but right on the border of Clinton hill (Lafayette between Clermont and Vanderbilt and is the gathering point for the Clinton Hill house tour May 1). It feels like a cathedral, with towering Romanesque arches, stunning stained glass windows, a beautiful altar and statues. But it has got to cost a fortune to heat that place up and after spending a fair amount of time in there during Holy Week, I was COLD. Freezing and left the other days shivering, so dressed for Easter like an Eskimo. With heating oil at these prices and the sheer size of the place, it is a bit chilly in there, in fact maybe chillier than outside.

  3. My wife is half-Ukranian. Her one tribute to this side of her heritage is to attend the blessing of the bread on the Saturday before Easter. We go to St. George’s on East 7th Street in the East Village (It’s the church across the street from McSorley’s Old Ale House). Ukranians from across the tri-state area come for this event, many of them immigrants.

May I just say that young Ukranian women are just GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Benson, I went in there once for takeout. They solemnly informed me that the takeout counter had already closed. I heard good things about that place but never did get my pulled pork. I developed a real taste for BBQ in Kansas City. I have to try it that place.
