As I remarked a few days ago, 1.5 years is a lifetime in politics. Remember that everyone “knew” in the last election that it was going to come down to Giuliani vs. Hillary. How did that turn out?
In 1991, George H.W. Bush looked unbeatable after the first Iraq war. His approval rating was at 91%. All the major, known Democratic candidates dropped out, thinking it a lost cause. A little-known governor named Bill Clinton put his hat in the ring. When he first joined the race, the only thing known about Clinton is that he gave an atrocious speech at the 88 Democratic convention that became the joke of all the late-night talk shows.
Well, I guess Kenya is more East Africa… but close enough.

Scott hit it right on the nail. I’m disappointed with Obama but even more disappointed with the Repub ’12 candidates – sad & sorry bunch. Fat Christie would make me hesitant to vote for Obama again.
The first time the President is younger than you is supposedly a significant life marker.
There are a fair number of Middle east and North African leaders who are out of work these days.
