“I am soooooooo tired and hung over and I totally have to work tonight. :(”
That sucks lech.
Drink some coca cola, it’s good for the stomach and to re-hydrate.
Some Excedrin would help too as long as you can take
aspirin.
Donatella’s suggestion for a large hamburger
is always helpful too with a hangover.
Maybe a half hour nap in a dark room too.
“Not snark but I thought god is supposed to be ineffable – ergo not sensed by any of the 5 – taste, smell, etc.”
Suppose I meant more the work of God or the ‘presence’ of God (i.e. as something felt, physically as well as emotionally, rather than literally seen). Not a theological expert, just giving my own views / experience.
(From a Christian perspective, if that doctrine holds it would have to apply only now – of course the disciples and others saw and in some cases touched Jesus, who is God.)
“I would put a counter-argument this way Arkady,
If one is counting on a mere 5 senses to make determinations on the universe and its workings,
one is woefully ill-equipped.”
EXACTLY- which is why I am an agnostic. OMG- did I just agree with legion? Ohhhh- it’s painful. Now I know how poor dave felt. 😉
etson- i think I have to take that a step further. People perceive things differently so perception is more the process of coming to a belief or conclusion. I don’t think perception is limited to the senses only- that would omit the enitre thought process which connects things together and creates ever widening perceptions.
I also think that most perceptions come with a set of biases, in that how we perceive things, and why we perceive things is so individual. Not that there aren’t common perceptions- indeed there are, but I was really impressed with a friend who considers herself a white witch. When she walks through a park, her perceptions of the park are far different than mine because she see the plants, their characteristics as herbs and medicines, and of course all of nature as it pertains to her belief system. I walk through as a artist, looking at the colors, the shapes, the light- even the paints and materials to translate what I see into a painting. Of course there is crossover, but my point is that education and experience also affect how we perceive the world and universe around us.
My feeling also is that our biology limits us to a certain extent in perceiving and understand the universe around us. So we depend on technology to expand those capabilities. But I seriously don’t think we can comprehend- at least at this point in time- if there is a G-d or not. So I am agnostic about it. People who believe in G-d have different perceptions, which lead them to belief. I think that’s very beautiful actually-

“And yet there is that nagging part of me that can not say for sure . . . Can you say conundrum?”
