  1. legion,

Censoring? Seriously? After you played the ‘your response is overly emotional’ card? You’re still posting aren’t you? If only I had that power!!! OY.

I think you should run for office. Your powers of obfuscation and ability to twist facts are excellent!

  2. Benson – mirrors are covered as because during shiva our thoughts should be turned inward. We should be reflecting on the person that passed and family, not physical appearance. Looking in the mirror is an act of vanity. Also it is important that no one looks at a mirror during the prayer.

  3. 2 long posts, legion- doing taxes must be boring you. Well, I am also interested in the hows and whys of our differences so I read them both with great interest. first I have to say, I think it seems more that we struck a nerve with you because you have taken so much time to reply. Nothing wrong with that but the problem is you still insist on your point of view as being the only correct one. Google anything to see this in action. You often declare you have presented the truth or the indisputable facts- but declaring that and being that are very different things. Even global warming- you declared that scientists have said it doesn’t exist, ignoring the other side entirely. Which has a hell of a lot of scientists who do believe in global warming.

I don’t expect you to be slopey but your provocative style must get you the response you want since you say you will continue using it. Then you shouldn’t complain when someone responds as provocatively. Variety is the spice of life- but you can have variety and more productive discussions if you did it without trying to provoke. That just gets you anger. I think you misunderstand what rob does. He enjoys getting attention so he posts the most provocative way possible, on every thread. People don’t care if he conforms- I certainly don’t- people are just tired of his schtick. Because that’s all it is. Rob loves to think he is a non-conformist, yet everyday he is totally consistent/ Yawn.

You always take disagreements with your ideas as personal attacks. Legion, if you proved your case, with logic or facts, I wouldn’t be trying to refute you. But what you do is declare you are right. That you have proved your point. Obviously, if cobble or I or MM are disagreeing, you haven’t proved it.

But when you make insulting comments about liberals, or dems, or insist I am far left- and then insult those on the far left, do you not see why those of us who are liberal or democrat or even leftist would be insulted? It’s not like we are only an online group- we have met, we’ve socialized, we developed friendships. You aren’t insulting strangers. When you question the patriotism of liberals, you’re questioning mine, and cobble’s and MM’s and Pete’s- any of us who happen to be to the left of center. So when you poke that stick, you can expect- and I suspect- want that reaction.

You’ll also note- I never mentioned your family, my comments were directed to you personally. You’re the one who keeps insisting cobble and I are questioning your whole family. When I talked about my family’s military contribution, in terms of liberal and democrat’s patriotism, I asked what you have done. As far as I’m concerned, families are off limits on the OT. But I think you should admit that all of us have life experiences that inform our opinions. You aren’t the only one who deals in cause and effect.

SO I look forward to the next go-round in which I am sure I will convince you to leave the GOP and go left. Now THAT would be cause and effect! 🙂

  4. This weekend I learned that almost all of the people like me who are in Irvington moved here from either the UWS (they refer to the river towns as “the upper upper upper west side”) or from brooklyn (mostly park slope).

We are ridiculously happy here. We’re waiting for the other shoe to drop, like learning that our neighborhood is some big cult or something.
