  1. “What I meant was, would you support a govt program that paid to move people from the rust belt to the sun belt?”

jessi, part of the problem is that our very own guvment put a whole shitload of programs in place to encourage home ownership, which it shouldn’t have done (I’ll put my conservative hat on here for a minute).

Now that it all has come crashing down, so many people are under water in their old homes they can’t sell and go somewhere else where the economy is better.

Once again guvment interference meant to encourage certain types of behavior has turned into a giant clusterfuck.

  2. benson, I did see your post late the other day about inheritance taxes in states. Thanks. However that would not be a factor in my decision to change domiciles.

Cuz I have a funny take on that (and Mrs. D disagrees). I really don’t care if I leave da kid anything other than some personal mementos.

See, I have what I consider a conservative pov on inheritance taxes, yet a view that doesn’t seem to be shared by many conservatives.

If in fact the US is a true meritocracy as we claim, then we should enforce that by making everyone start with the same thing. Nothing. Then the real cream rises to the top.

So, in my mind, there should be an inheritance tax of close to 100%, perhaps with some allowances for farmland and stuff.

  3. “Personally I’d rather be a stick-up kid if it came to that.”

    awesome!

but yeah – i totally agree with the rest of your post. similar thing happened to my parents when i was a youngster.

  4. “but at what point do we give up blaming those still have jobs and start realizing that the government is failing when it can’t create an environment for more?”

Who the hell is blaming those who still have jobs? I’m thrilled they still do. The words “jobless recovery” ring a bell? I don’t see private industry rushing to create jobs- big corporations are holding onto their money or looking for ways to increase their profit margins- there is no job creation program in private industry. Although they certainly have their hands in the government trough. Instead, the prevailing attitude is “let’s not care.”
I’m done- sick of the throw them to the wolves attitude I see on here.

Kens- they make you go through humiliating hell and if I can avoid it somehow I want to. Don’t know that I have much choice. I will look into disability programs- problem is they are so crowded now there are waiting lists and I’m not sure what will happen. Thanks- I know you weren’t being snarky.
