Rf, your rule above seems excellent – allows for her to express herself but not do permanent damage. Anything more strict could backfire and kids need limits so it seems you’ve developed the perfect balance.
Yeah, long hair for boys wasn’t allowed at our high school. Remember a big fuss involving lawyers letters etc when one kid got suspended (about 1990ish).
No I did not, Dona. I was there when she did it and although I cringed when they washed off the dye stuff, it’s still her under the crowning glory. It’s just hair! (my mantra)
JB, I once had a wave perm for my hair so that it could make my stiff hair more managable and have that wavy look in the front. what a waste money. think it was my freshman yr in college. went with the crew cut afterwards and swore off “Salons”. been barbershops since then.

Once a guy dyed my hair and left my house when it was wet. It was almost black when it dried. Magic Marker head. I was really upset.
Posting may have been fast this morning but it’s really slow now.

“and ladies in btwn those ages (like JB, my wife….) like to do subtle highlightsâ€
You’re too kind, M4L – I don’t get highlights, I dye the whole thing for grey coverage. The ladies in my family go early.

rf, I think people really only stare at weird piercings. hair not so much, and if they do, it’s more interest than disgust. really.
