“I’ve owned MON and ADM from time to time, but I’ve never owned TSN.”
Anyone who bought TMI this morning should be in a good position to sell now. Quite a bullish day for it. Although there seem to be daily dividends, so you may want to hold.
“people cant save in this country cause they love to spend spend spend – ”
m4l, have you noticed that a number of financial types are saying China needs to enact a SS-like retirement plan? Then the damn Chinese will start doing what they’re supposed to do… stop saving and start SPENDING.
To DIBS point before, if you had avoided investing in processed food (esp meat) companies over the past couple of decades you could retire much sooner than if you had.
Generally have been bad investments, bad managements.
“yeah, but people only lived to be like 45 back then too – so take your pick”
I think life expectancy has move to do with advancement in medicine and the availability of medical care. Just look at aid alone. Back in the early 80’s people would die of AIDs within a year or two after being diagnosed with HIV, now people are living with HIV/AIS.
Japanese have the highest rates of stomach cancer and ulcers in the world. They are always getting problems with their stomachs. They smoke like chimneys and drink more than you could ever imagine and sleep on the trains, on the floor on the way home they are so drunk. They have plenty of strokes.
About the stomach problems, once on the way to Kansas City I sat on a plane next to a gastroenterologist. Just to make small talk (gawd..) I told him that I noticed that Japanese people have extremely fucked up stomachs – ulcers, cancer, etc.
He got really excited and said YES, it is true, they do. I have written research papers on this. The reason – they eat tons of carcinogens. Specifically all the crap they use to pickle vegetables. Every meal has pickled vegetables and the pickling agents are very bad. I guess it is like anything. A little of it is fine, but they
eat a hell of a lot of pickles.
“and call me crazy – but i think a company who produces something that people put INTO their body should first and foremost be responsible to their CUSTOMERS – not their shareholders.â€
You’re never going to retire with an attitude like that.
You’re a slow learner but I think you’re finally getting it.

“I grew up in a meat and potatoes house.”
Didn’t it start to smell after awhile?
