“Not believing in a god or gods doesn’t mean you don’t subscribe to a moral code! That’s so reductionist – that the only reason people behave is that they’re going either to jail (human retribution) or hell (divine punishment.)â€
I think we need to go back to Jackal’s question before we can go there: why doesn’t someone define human will.
I basically behave because I want to make my parents proud, I want the people I encounter to like me, and I want to have money so I can travel the earth.
Rob/Lech – haaaaa – you are probably right – although I do like reading about ancient people and how until Christianity came along – they were very happy believing in magic and the earth
“jb – I take serious issue w/ the idea that believers are more level headed. Inquisition anyone? Rightwing nutjobs? I’m an atheist & live an extremely moral existence & am charitable towards others.â€
I never said they were more level headed. My idea was that a group of people tethered by beliefs are going to create a more long lasting society than one full of a group of us who think about how entirely strange and freaky it is to be a human being living on planet earth.

BSM – I guess I figure that buddhists are still in play today – not many people running around nowadays claiming to be a druid – although I think I might as technically they are my original people 🙂
Poseurs. Self-professed paganism is highly correlated to playing Dungeons & Dragons well into your 30s and my wanting to knee you in the balls when no one is looking.
Yeah, if I did believe in something I’d want it to be Santa & the Easter Bunny & leprechauns.

Gem- you should just put the baby in a basket – it worked for centuries.
And hide him among the bullruhes in the Gowanus.
Home fries: red skins with the skin on

Does anyone know what is coming on the SW corner of President St and 4th Ave? It looks like it will have big windows, but no sign of what it will be.
“So…what do we all think of Druids and Pagans?”
