I have one that has been living in a large pot for about 5 years now. Just a suggestion. That’s the one I am making the cutting for Snaps from.
Are herbs hard to care for? I have truly brown thumbs and kill just about everything I try to grow. The roof I have available to me only gets a couple hours of morning light.

Snappy, I’ve already tried that and it didn’t last. I’ll do it again this year because the one large rosemary plant does creep like that so that you can retrieve parts with roots and all
