I am going to see this film tonight at the Brooklyn Museum:
Thursdays @ 7: Film

Off and Running (Nicole Opper, 2010, 76 min.). A coming-of-age film about an adopted African American teenage track star from Brooklyn being raised by white Jewish lesbians. This event is a collaboration with the award-winning documentary series POV.
Avery and her brother were on a track club with the daughter of a friend of mine. Her brother went to Brooklyn Tech. I heard it’s a good film.
Apparently this ad is just the first in their campaign. I suspect they will get more provacative/offensive as the year goes on. High/low bets on how long it will take before the ad is defaced?
quote:
Cobble, I heard on the radio this a.m. that the mother of the girl in the billboard is hopping mad. She allegedly took her daughter for photo shoots to get commercial/ad work but allegedly never approved her image for such use.
the ad is a disgrace, but she signed a waiver that the image can be used as stock photo for any purposes the organizations seems fit. i think it should still be taken down tho.
The “life” organization is from Texas. No shortage of busybodies from the boonies looking to save souls in sin city. (Like Houston and Dallas aren’t sinful enough!)
“Texas. Humph. I should have known. More crackpots.”
Trivia question: What is the largest US city with an openly gay or lesbian mayor?

“Where is this “Life” organization from? Never heard of them before.”
Not sure where. I took a look at their website. Two of the Board members are African American ministers. One from Texas, the other Maryland
Gem, I guess I better have a box of Kleenex on hand when I watch it! I cry very easily during movies. (yes, I’m a big ole baby!)

As BH and I have discussed many times, we don’t know a single woman who has had an abortion and didn’t feel they made a very difficult choice.
my mom had three abortions before me, and it was never a big deal to her.
