  1. Gem- my ex was from L.I. and there are loads of bi-racial neighborhoods and families. I felt safer in some of the L.I. towns than I did walking in Carroll Gardens, back in the 80’s. One thing I’ll give my ex- as aware as we were about being a biracial couple, he decided no one was going to tell him where to live because of his color. And when he did go to a predominantly white area, he knew how to make friends. Not every white area is a seething mass of KKK dragons and wizards, lying in wait.

  2. Saw the article on that billboard too. Screams racist. It’s so offensive- and like cobble, I don’t know any woman who has had an abortion, who didn’t suffer while making that decision. No one likes abortion- despite what the anti-abortion people say. And their ranks are filling up with more and more crazies. I read the other day where one state (can’t remember which) wants to pass legislation saying the killing of an unborn is the same as killing any other person and the unborn must be protected at any cost. The law is so extreme and provocative that even anti-abortion people have pointed out it can lead someone to think its ok to shoot doctors performing abortions.

This is what happens when religious nutjobs decide to run the world.

Uh-oh- we talked about abortion on the OT.

  3. RF – thank you. I do take comfort in living in Park Slope – as much as we all make fun of it – it’s truly a safe place to raise a bi-racial child or be a family that isn’t “typical”. Many times I bring up moving to LI to my husband just so we can have a house with a yard and driveway and all that nice stuff – but he always brings it back to the racial make-up of the town.

  4. quote:
Much more likely to happen to a black kid on his way to school in Bed-Stuy than to a white kid on his way to school in Park Slope.

ive never SEEN a cop in park slope, ever! maybe it has to do with where they patrol.

  5. “Street Stops by the Police Hit a New High”

More guns are taken off the street during the pre-Christmas gun buying campaign than street stops.

7% percent of the stops are arrested. What percent of those are found guilty?

93% are angered, humiliated and now harbor ill will towards the police.
