Not in defense of Rob, but in defense of his position: Kens says that he determines the price to charge for a product based upon what the market will bear…

    How is “market” defined?

Isn’t it partially determined by what high end products cost? Don’t housing prices in Fort Greene rise — in part — because of a rise in Brooklyn Heights? People might not be able to afford the $4 million brownstone, but maybe they’ll pay $3 million, so why would you offer for $2? All I’m saying is that it’s possible that Rob has a point that the high end of the market has an effect of what “market” means.

Oy vey Jessi. It’s like you are really trying to support Rob’s point but it’s a total fail.

    1. What does your real estate example have anything to do with Consumer products? You’re talking about something that was built 100 years ago for $20,000 and now worth a milllion + dollars.

    2. When it comes to collectibles and things of sentimental value, all pricing rules go out of the window. Just as in real estate, the worth of these items are only what the highest bidder is willing to pay for them.

    3. Let’s talk solid product like ice cream, as we started on yesterday since Rob was plathering about it. There is also a $1,000 ice cream creation that I think Waldorf Astoria makes that has osteria caviar and like golden flakes it in. How does this ice cream or Van Leeuwen effect the $1.99 half a gallon (or whatever the size is now) of Blue Bunny chocolate chip that I bought in shoprite last week? Are you really trying to tell me as Rob has that if it wasn’t for yuppified ice cream, the Blue Bunny would cost only a dollar? How do you figure they make a profit? If you can show me a business plan on where you can make decent ice cream for 50 cents a pint with all the ingredients, shipping costs, storing costs, salaries, marketing, packaging, etc. etc., I am sure I’ll find enough investors to fund a pretty decent size ice cream business.

  2. Happy Tuesday everyone.

Had a good weekend – went to the Queens Museum on Saturday. They are doing a huge renovation/expansion that has closed down much of the museum, but the enormous panorama of NYC is still open. If anyone has not seen it yet, I highly recommend it.

Happened to see several sword dancing groups perform on Sunday. I had no idea what it was or that such thing existed, but apparently a number of groups from up and down the east coast gather in NYC ever Presidents day weekend.

Grand Torino was a great movie – it was nothing at all what I was expecting.

  3. am having an electrician over tomorrow. maybe he will be hot. from what i read I may have a loose neutral – whatever that means……Some Lights dim too much and some pulse when washing machine is agitating.
