bxgrl, Art is very different. Again, as I said earlier, collectibles or sentimental value items don’t apply to these rules.
Do you price your items figuring in how much Picasso’s or Van Gogh’s go for?
I think Lech touched on this discussion. I kinda agree with him and don’t understand a concept of art pricing. I don’t even understand the pricer of uber expensive wines. I guess it all goes with rarity and collectible aspect.
I am talking about run of the mill products – toothpaste, groceries, toys, beer, etc. etc.
Going to war with Somalia would be kind of pointless, since there is close to no real government to go to war with, and what government there is has almost no ability to stop the pirates.
Horrible about the hostages. The pirates have attacked ships from all nations and none of them have been able to do anything. to stop them. Should we go to war with Somalia over this? Don’t think so. But nations that has been attacked should get together and have a bigger presence in the area to deal with this. I agree cobble. What were they thinking?
It’s not irrelevant to those that shop at small markets – i.e., Rob. I don’t doubt that he’s seen a price creep in his bodegas due to the introduction of high end products (and it’s not only due to increases in rent, utilities, taxes, etc.). If the bodega only used to sell 40s and then starts to sell Sixpoints, would you be surprised to see your 40 ounce cost 25 cents more?
Jessi, maybe you’re right. We don’t have those facts though. Can a small business owner decide to raise 40’s by a dollar for any reason he chooses? sure. But at the end of the day if the bodega across the street sells them for less, he’ll lose most of his business. There is no customer royalty at bodegas, only to Old English, which you can buy at most bodegas. If the owner chooses to scrap 40’s and sell sixpoints because he thinks his clientele has changed and he can make more, hey, it’s his absolute right. Don’t tell me you wouldn’t do the same if you were bodega owner just to satisfy Rob. The bodega owner has expenses and business to run so he’ll do what’s most economically feasible for him/her self.
The point is, there are always exceptions to every rule but for the majority of the consumer products, the high and low-end niche doesn’t constitute the prices of every other product in that category. That was my original point if you read it carefully. And that is MM’s point too.
past that, we can speculate all you want.
If I followed Rob’s reasoning, I would be unemployed now and if the company actually took that advice, we would go bankrupt pretty quickly and so would most companies.
bxgrl – I’m not at all good at crafts but a neighbor of mine who is gave me a needlepoint project to do years ago. I put in hours & it’s not bad: not great either. If I were to sell it at the price I’d’ve charged for those man hours it would cost a million bucks!

arkady- and it would be worth every penny you charged 🙂
Reagan took pretty strong positions on democracy in places like El Salvador and Nicaragua.

Not to blame the victims, but it’s pretty darn well known that there are PIRATES off the coast of Somalia. What were they thinking???
Yes, it was offshore but they were from Somalia. There was apparently a fight onboard and two Somalians were killed as well.
There needs to be a much firmer hand regarding this.
