I took the kids to the NY Transit Museum yesterday. HIGHLY recommended. And it’s very local for most of us (corner of Schermerhorn and Boerum Place – basically right behind Brooklyn Law School). There are lots of old subway cars dating all the way back to 1908 or something. They all still work, and they have special excursions where they take groups of people out on the NY subway system in the old cars. One of their most popular excursions is a day at Coney Island. Everyone gets on an old timey subway car at the Museum, and they drive it out to Coney Island, give you a few hours to hang around, and then drive you to some subway stop in midtown Manhattan at the end of the day. $45 per person.
“The R at Court St has elevators, which are much more preferable to the narrow, dark, awful stairway, in which a large homeless man usually camps out.”
I’ve had this same really unpleasant experience. Reminds me a bit too much of a scene in The Stand.
quote: “Is it usially a long wait for the elevators? I mean what if there are like 50 people getting off the stop at the same time. This seems ridiculous.”
I never even realized there were stairs that could be used at the Clinton/Montague exit of the Court Steet R station, and I use that exit once or twice a week.
How about senior citizen Mick Jagger?

DH, you’ve heard of that band that won album of the yr?
Clark street about 100 feet below the street. If people used the stairs it would become a triage spot for LICH.
$150 a month per person for food stamps does seem high.
My family of 3 spends $400-$500 a month, and I think we eat pretty well.
I am pretty sure we could survive on $50 a month if we had to.

yeah – dylan sounded horrible – but he’s bob dylan, he’s earned the right to croak on the grammy’s.
bruno mars has a serious case of gay face.

There are 2 elevators, and they are huge.
