“Lech, on another note and this is a sincere question: you know some of mine but I was wondering whom would you consider people (dead or alive) that you have great admiration for / consider your heroes / inspiration?”
Interesting question. I would say almost all of my sources of inspiration are scientist / inventor types. I don’t find leaders to be very inspiring, most are just products of their people and happened to be in the right place at the right time to get people to an obvious place. Leaders who aren’t just facilitating popular will are usually pretty bad people. And it’s not like there are many obvious candidates for great scientists either; I mean people like Einstein, obviously, but really anyone who doggedly pursues scientific truth in the pursuit of knowledge is going to be up there for me. Philosophers too, but I can’t say I consider any of them to be heroes or anything, I just have tremendous respect for the entire field.
cgar- my point is that if you expect to have a say in what conversations we can have, then be prepared to give up some of the ones you are interested in. We’ve welcomed every newcomer who has posted here. And on blogs there is always a core group that keeps going. People who aren’t that interested in posting all the time simply drop in and drop out. And a lot of us who post here have become friends off line.
The OT is supposed to be open to any topic. When I don’t have an interest in what’s being discussed, I stop reading and come back later. Simple.
Regarding “important issues regarding that affect all of us”, they are generally approached with either a) a bait for entertainment perspective or b) a breath taking mean spiritedness and vicious snarkiness
that they go nowhere….
Just nowhere…..
Regarding bait for entertainment, I am amazed, absolutely amazed to see the extent to which this is not recognized by the usual baitees AND regarding the mean spiritedness, I think it has improved, but admit it, it can get very ugly here.
YAWN. So the people that usually control the conversation are upset that other people have taken control of the conversation? Have I got this right? Should we assign this a number?
Let me add my voice to those who have expressed disinterest in the penis festivals here.

Cobble- exactly right.
What about mortgage rates, since Adam Dahill is here. I locked in a jumbo conforming at 5.25%. Too high? Or just right?
You all crack me up.
“Contortionist Typists come in around #263”
