  1. “Nor does the measure specify what type of firearm. Instead, residents would pick one “suitable to their temperament, physical capacity, and preference.”

Now that’s the really crazy part. Watch them all load up on semi-automatics and walk down the street feeling all macho and shit.

  2. Once I won 350 bucks on one of those Super Bowl box things in my office. When I collected, I asked “who was playing again?”. Provocatrix!

By the way, I lament the loss of the use of the following words in the English language:

    Actress
    Waitress
    Stewardess

I also lament the fact that people are now speaking in sentence fragments in the media. For example when using the progressive tense, they truncate the word to the gerund, confusing syntax.

For example, an educated person wanting to express a certain idea about Egypt in a clear and direct way would say the following:

“Millions of Egyptians are taking to the streets, protesting what they believe to be an unjust and repressive government.”

INSTEAD, the extremely busy, breathless and UP TO THE SECOND, important media types are saying the ff:

“Millions of Egyptians taking to the streets protesting what they believe….” Where is the word AND before taking?

Yes, folks these are the things that occupy my thinking.

  3. m4l — sheepishly, yes. I decided before the season to give it a try, partly to honor my shared jewish heritage with Amar’e. That, and the fact that the pushback was so strong when rumors of Isaiah’s return started, that I feel somewhat sanguine we won’t be seeing him return in any meaningful capacity. But my rule is, if he’s back, I’m out. Seriously, this is a professionally run team for the first time in a decade. I don’t need them to win, just to care and not be stupid on teh court and off.

BTW, do you know most NBA stars have a “love of the game” clause in their contracts? Unlike their peers in other pro sports, they can play pick up anywhere, anytime, and even get injured, without imperiling their contractual rights. I’ve been trying to get a message through to Amar’e that he should join his fellow MOTs on the court in the basement of Beth Elohim on 8th Ave.

  4. “If law abiding New Yorkers were armed, we’d have more dead law abiding New Yorkers”

And thus you identify our fundamental, unresolveable difference of opinion. I believe that states in which only the police are armed are necessarily either more oppressive or more violent than equivalent states with well armed citizens.
