Turns out it’s not a serious attempt. Rather, the lawmakers are trying to make a point about the new health care law — that an individual mandate is unconstitutional, whether it requires everyone to buy health insurance or, in South Dakota’s case, a firearm.
Ignoring gun control/mandatory ownership and skipping to the more agreeable topic of abortion, has anyone read about the the bill form Chris Smith (R-NJ) that would cut Medicade and other Federal funding for abortions except for “forcible rape.”
This could apparently eliminate existing coverage for other types of rape (drugged, coercion, threat of force), as well as cases of incest or when the mother’s life is threatened.
Several of my super-liberal friends seem to be all up in arms over this today, but I can’t find a lot of unbiased information.
I’d rather stay at a place that has a concierge.
