  1. “Wait ’till they start growing up with the psychological problems from having Park Slope Parents!!!!!”

You saying my kid would be better off psychologically if raised by you in Bed-Stuy? (Besides, while I am a (small p) parent in Park Slope, I am not a Park Slope Parent; I never joined.)

  2. High-End Liquor Helps U.S. Economy as Grey Goose Soars (

Jan. 24 (Bloomberg) — The American drinker is again feeling rich enough to buy expensive spirits like Grey Goose vodka and Woodford Reserve in the midst of an unemployment hangover, the Distilled Spirits Council of the U.S. said.
Manufacturer sales to wholesalers of so-called super- premium spirits grew 11 percent to $3.1 billion in 2010, after falling 4.1 percent the previous year, the council said today at its annual presentation in New York. Total spirits sales by suppliers rose 2.3 percent to $19.2 billion.
Sales of higher-end liquor are further evidence that wealthy Americans, emboldened by stock-market gains, are helping boost the U.S. economy. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index has soared 91 percent from its March 2009 low, even as the U.S.
struggles with the longest stretch of unemployment rates above 9 percent since monthly records began in 1948.
“People are coming back to the store, they have a little more money to spend and they are feeling a little more relaxed about the economy,” Dom Simao, a manager at Smoke Rise Bottle Shoppe in Stone Mountain, Georgia, just outside Atlanta, said in an interview Jan. 22.
The store was selling a 750-milliliter bottle of Patron Silver for $46.99 and the same-size bottle of Glenlivet 18 scotch for $81.99. Some of the top-dollar brands, like Patron, were kept behind the counter to curb shoplifting, Simao said.
So-called value spirits declined 1.8 percent to $4 billion last year, according to the council, as consumers returned to spirits with better quality and taste.

  3. Dibs, cocoa spiked again today because the legit President of Ivory Coast called for an export ban of cocoa to cash starve the incumbent who won’t step down. Int’l cocoa companies with production don’t want to defy this order since all int’l authorities back the Quatarra, the “out of power, legit President”.

Could go down quickly with some resolution of this. Pick a target price, don’t expect this to continue. could come down quickly.

  4. You know what make me feel really awesome? Drinking straight out of a stream in the woods. Pick a nice little feeder stream that’s fed with snow melt and hasn’t been through any cow pastures or anything like that….. bend right down, lips to the water, and drink straight from the stream. Godmotherfuckingdammit that feels good.

  5. m4l — If kid really exposed in daycare then no new first year whammy in school. If home with caregiver until K or pre-K, then that’s when it happens. I don’t know what jackal’s child care situation has been before this year. I know he has a kid in school now (pre-K? K?).
