  1. “Wrong analogy. It’s a commercial enterprise. In my work, I am always interested in feedback from the customers, good or bad.”

Yes, feedback / constructive criticism should always be welcomed. There’s always room for improvement. And the end user may have some insight on how to better the product. In the past we “bitched” about getting an open thread…viola.
We also “bitched” about having more architecture related threads. MM is providing them and they’re well liked.

So, please submit your comments in the suggestion box.

  2. all i said was that WHAT made it more interesting around here. end of story.

and i know i am part of mr b’s hustle and am OK with it. i like what he has done for brooklyn. i like the moonface. i love bike lanes. i probably have less issue with the topics discussed here than most of you do. my main beef is with the PLUSAfication of brownstoner. it has made it worse not better.

    vote WHAT in 2012

  3. “that is a dumb analogy. and this is not “some guy’s blog”, it is a money making machine with a blog attached.”

None of us is forced to post here, so if it makes money thanks to us, well, we knew that. Face it- most of us were posting here long before the blog became a money making machine and I for one don’t begrudge Jon. He created the blog and built it up. Doesn’t mean I have no opinion on the content, but I am not going to bitch about his success.Unlike some I could mention.

  4. “When you’re a guest in someone’s house do you bitch about the cooking and tell them how they can improve the decorations?”

Yes, together with the other guests, but, typically only when they’ve left the room.

“It’s a commercial enterprise. In my work, I am always interested in feedback from the customers, good or bad.”

But, I agree with benson on this one. If we find the content stale, chances are pretty good non-PLUSAs do, too. And if PLUSAs and non-PLUSAs alike stop posting as much, or at all, blog traffic goes down, and revenue goes down. So I would say it’s foolish not to accept feedback and constructive criticism, most especially from those who know the blog the best and the longest.

  5. “that is a dumb analogy. and this is not “some guy’s blog”, it is a money making machine with a blog attached.”

OK well you’re a guest in his money making machine, and you sound like kind of a twat when you bitch about it.

  6. “What’s the deal with everyone sniping on Brownstoner content? It’s some guy’s blog, not yours. When you’re a guest in someone’s house do you bitch about the cooking and tell them how they can improve the decorations?”

that is a dumb analogy. and this is not “some guy’s blog”, it is a money making machine with a blog attached.

anyway, the success of blogs like this have more to do with the user driven content not what the site owner wants it to be. mr b can only ban people for being offensive, but to make it interesting around here it is up to us.
