Thanks BHS. I don’t like the towels at Target. I’m picky.
I’ll stick to buying them from C21 (not that I need them).
I hate shopping. Prolly one of few females that hates to shop.
I’ve shopped for towels at Target and at Walmart. Target has a much bigger range of towels, and the bottom rung at Target is better than the top rung at Walmart, and Target’s towels are cheap.
Don’t know for a fact m4l, but presume it’s because of uneven distribution of earnings across segments of the banks, i.e. have to pay traders in divisions that made a lot of money but can’t / don’t give less than zero to those in lossmaking divisions.
Some of the banks (I think UBS and CSFB) have floated teh idea of clawbacks but not sure how widely they have been applied.
I’ve been to Costco or was it BJ’s and was very underwhelmed.
All I kept thinking was: How much crap do people need in their lives? And do they really need this much of it?
Plus, some things are not at a great savings.
fyi – I got diapers. Which turns out aren’t much cheaper than getting them from Target.
I was in Century 21 over the weekend. I stopped and looked around and said: Look at ALL this stuff. There’s a lot of stuff in this store. Do we really need all this as a society? Too many choices. Too much being made. How much of this won’t get sold? We are so gluttonous, it’s disgusting.
Like I said, bonuses are rarely paid against earnings. Only for the yop 2-3 guys.
banks may be more “democratic” in paying bonuses but at a place like GS they are paid by groups. If a guy brings in $XXXMM of revenue, he’s gonna get $XXMM bonus.
I’m sure in a lot of these places, if you are a cost center and not a revenue generator, your bonus will be down
i own like one towel. bought at one of those value stores on 5th avenue. i think it was 3 bux. i guess i can understand why some people might wash clothes. in college i used to hang out with these chicks who used to buy clothes at stores at the mall and then wear them to frat parties and leave the tags on them and then return them. they did this like every week
DIBS, RECORD bonus is a historical reference and not a yr over yr reference. Wall St record earnings were right before the financial collapse. if current consensus was below those PEAK earnings then, how/why would the papers predict RECORD bonuses this yr – ESPECIALLY many firms are trying to lower the payout as a % of rev or profits.

Ikea’s towels are not thick. Cheap though.
dIBS i was referring to their middle level grunts.. Not the top level stars that get paid in the 8figure range..

“I wonder what the selection of towels is like at Walmart.”
Pretty much the same as Target, with a less pretentious name and slightly fewer colors for a buck or two less.
