  1. “So overwrought”

That statement applies to much that is presented on TV these days, sports and reality TV, in particular.

When I look at the Jets’ fat pig of a coach and his behavior, my mind always goes back to the title of the Vince Lombardi biography: “When Pride Still Mattered”. Where are the Vince Lombardi’s of today?

  2. One reason we lag in technology is that we’re early adopters. Electricity – ac vs. dc. Television – PAL vs. Secam. Even subways & cell phones are just another iteration of the same phenomenon in which US has primitive infrastructure while late-comers could build more state-of-the-art.
And I agree w/ Denton about Times Sq. – romance is gone from it even though it was really, really seedy. But if you want stores based on catalogues go to the ‘burbs.

  3. I hear you slopefarm, but even when I’m watching with friends who care every time I cheer I hear a little voice yelling FAKE FAKE FAKE FAKE!!!! YOU FAKING FAKER!!!! YOU DON’T GIVE A SHIT WHO WINS AND YOU KNOW IT!!!! It can be very distracting.

  4. “hockey is a sport that’s way better to watch in person. football is better to watch on TV unless you got kickass 50 yard line seats”

yeah – i agree. hockey is great in person. football in person is all about the tailgating.
