“They have a crap job and get no respect.I don’t know a single person on the OT who would work under the conditions they do. Certainly not the lawyers ;)”
It is NOT a crap job. It is only jerks who don’t respect them. I respect them.
Also, a study was done which has shown that NYC Sanitation workers have the among the highest levels of job satisfaction of municipal workers and are high on the list out of a bigger list. I forget where this study came from, (and tried to find by googling) but it made an impression on me at the time and made me think about what aspects of being a sanitation worker would be satisfying.
Obviously, it is low status, so you need to not need that, AND you deal with garbage, which smells and can be gross. But beyond that, nobody plays around with your head. There is a lot of cameraderie, fooling around, laughing, cooperation. The job is a public service. You can see the results of your work. You get paid fairly well and you get great benefits and a pension.
I am not one of the muni-worker-bashers on this site. But also they are not victims.
Yes, Corrections Officers are part of a union. I suspect there’s a lot of things being done under the radar in prisons. I bet a lot of it is necessary to keep order. Probably a lot of bad eggs among the COs.
“I wonder why it is such a problem to prevent the phones getting in or to detect them and get them out.”
Why? Cuz the guards are more corrupt than the criminals. Civil servants also, one might add. Did you see the one in the UK where there was a riot cuz they did alcohol testing on the inmates? Where did the booze come from?
And who was that guy who did a whole bar mitzvah in jail?
On the prison article, the second paragraph is key – at least some are being bought from the guards, and I would not be surprised if they are paying a “monthly service charge” to the guards to keep them.
Our Lady of Lourdes Church says that anyone who went to the morning masses on Sunday were exposed to Hepatitis A at Communion. 🙁

Eh, I’ve been online long enough to not let forum attacks hurt me.

The term “inside job” comes to mind…
BHS- tis true. If you haven’t been OT Punching bag at least once, you can’t really fully experience it 😉

Oh. I don’t know. Maybe everyone hides them in their butt or something.
