  1. Lechacal, maybe you should be a suburban guy. But I have family members who moved to the burbs and they are constantly in a state of stress on the road, watching other drivers behaving courteously and losing valuable seconds.

  2. The 6 weeks I took metro north were horrendous, though it was a reverse commute. Train broke down 3 times and had to cross tracks and always at least 15 minutes late into GC. Rather live in texas or colorado b4 doing that again.

  3. interesting article dibs, but that guy scares me. While I agree nothing wrong with buying a house right now, he treats cash as trash.

Cash is never trash. The only real asset that has a positive rate of return in the past decade is maybe GOLD.

Debt has to be paid back with interest.

  4. “Excellent point”

Not really. It’s a meaningless statement. The problem for me is being out of contact for 50+ minutes every morning and having a consistently unpredictable commute. I can fix both of those things by moving to Westchester. “Shit happens” is just sort of defeatist and fails to appreciate that there are ways to manage this.

“Get to work before the shit starts flying,”

Oh sure cobble. Right before you take my kids to school.

  5. “Doing it requires solving this.”

So solve it, Mr. Smarty Pants. Get to work before the shit starts flying, move to Manhattan so you can always be “online”/walk to work, or have a back up person that can cover you while you are “out-of-pocket” on the subway. This can’t be rocket science.
