Have you been following the WSJ’s expose of how poorly the Medicare system is run? Today’s article is especially great: names names, including a practice common among a certain immigrant group in Brooklyn.
Cuba has two healthcare systems,
one for the medical “tourists” which is well stocked
and well supplied as they pay in hard currency.
One for the everyday Cubans which is woefully understocked with a real scarcity of basics like aspirin and antibiotics.
Cuba has shipped off a good percentage of it’s doctors to Venezuela in exchange for oil and this is effecting it’s ability to treat Cuban citizens.
No doubt they train many doctors. By decree.
Cuba is an island of 11 million,
compare that to the US with 310 million people.
Anyone claiming that Cuba has a better healthcare system due to it’s elongated life expectancy would have to look at Puerto Rico which has enjoyed one of the world’s longest average life expectancy rates for many decades.
I doubt the life expectancy in Cuba is related directly to the quality of their healthcare system, rather a consequence, as denton pointed out, of diet and genetics.
oh, and bfar – thanks for the bushmills rec. how weird is their new ad campaign? i bet 90% of the people who see those billboards have no idea who those people are! (the only people i recognize are Chromeo)
cgar, I think sending her empty boxes is a terrific idea, doesn’t she live in a small apt with a slew of other folks? Very gaslight.
