  1. “”It has always seemed to me after all that Christmas, with its spirit of giving, offers us all a wonderful opportunity each year to reflect on what we all most sincerely and deeply believe in.

I refer of course, to money.””

I love Tom Lehrer, slopey! My parents had a bunch of his records and we knew them by heart!

  2. m4l, I’ll email Emily.

Slopey, isn’t this also an appropriate time of year for “National Brotherhood Week”?

dave, did you see “Devil Wears Prada”? [Pre-emptively giving myself GOTD]

  3. About 6-8 of us eat at Effie’s every New Year’s Eve…it’s a neighborhood greek place that’s a BYOB…nothing fancy, none of that ridiculous “2 seatings with special $120 menu” crap.

  4. “I’m also in that holiday mood to $pread $ome Chri$tma$ cheer.”

Yes, dibs, as Tom Lehrer so aptly put it:

“It has always seemed to me after all that Christmas, with its spirit of giving, offers us all a wonderful opportunity each year to reflect on what we all most sincerely and deeply believe in.

I refer of course, to money.”

An excerpt from his Christmas Carol:

    Relations, sparing no expense’ll
    Send some useless old utensil,
Or a matching pen and pencil.
“Just the thing I need! How nice!”
It doesn’t matter how sincere it
Is, nor how heartfelt the spirit,
    Sentiment will not endear it,
    What’s important is the price.

    Hark the Herald Tribune sings,
    Advertising wondrous things.
    God rest ye merry, merchants,
May you make the Yuletide pay.
Angels we have heard on high
Tell us to go out and buy!
