  1. The “orthodox” no pun intended, view of the Catholic Church toward the Jewish people is that in the world of John Paul II, they are our elder brothers and constantly showing signs of “election”. And the Jews and Catholics (who are the the most conservative and historically connected to the Jewish traditions) have always had an affinity and a likemindedness, despite some bitter and sad history.

    No problem, RF.

  2. Rf, we usually agree not to have serious discussions on theology on this website, but there really IS something distinctive about the different strains of Christianity and there if one chooses to be a Catholic, one actually embraces a certain set of beliefs. It is not a Christian thing to abuse others but as part of living in a pluralistic society, we agree to live in peace with one another, allowing people to believe and practice what they want. However, this has nothing to do with the ultimate claims to truth. It is a tension in the Catholic church since Vatican II. Also, pedophilia is not part of the Catholic faith. It was an abuse. The Catholic clergy, including the Pope, has been publically flagellating itself now for at least a decade over the abuse of the pedophile priests.

  3. RF;

    One more thing. Normally I make it a habit of not commenting on other people’s religion, out of respect. I do make an exception for St. John’s. Why? Because in that Bill Moyer’s interview, the so-called pastor spent most of his time engaged in political vitriol directed at George W.
