Mayor Bloomberg and Borough President Markowitz today announced that the City is issuing a Request for Proposal to develop 37,000 square feet of space on the ground and second floors of the Brooklyn Municipal Building (photo above), at the corner of court and Joralemon Streets, for commercial retail use.
“whose largesse with the taxpayers’ dollar in his district earned him the moniker Uncle Vinnie, doled out $6.5 million in so-called member items, which were in some measure the focus of the federal inquiry, in the last five years, according to records maintained by the Empire Center for New York State Policy and the Albany Project.
The charges say he had in part controlled a nonprofit group that financed and developed senior housing in his district, and he has sponsored millions of dollars in grants for the group over the last decade.
Part of the investigation focused on accusations that he had told the lawyer identified as Attorney No. 1, who did work for the group, that he would cause the group to withhold payment for his services unless he paid half of the money to the senator.”
