  1. dh, German cars maybe or maybe not expensive, depending. One the one hand, parts and labor are expensive. otoh, you can expect to keep the car longer. You look in the bmw forums, you’ll see plenty of questions that start, ‘hi, my E30 has 210,000 miles and i hear a rattle in the trunk area…’

but a lot of old school experts think the good old days are over for German cars with the damn electronics all these companies are dumbing down the cars with. The feeling is these will start to break sooner rather than later and at some point all these doo-dads will become too expensive to repair.

My last car was an Audi and more reliable than current BMW, but issues so far very minor.

8 cyl BMWs much less reliable historically than 6 cyl.

  2. OK so I don’t have to stay sober and leave early Thursday after all (the thing I have to be sharp for is Thursday afternoon instead of Friday morning). However I will be attending the firm holiday party and am scheduled to eat fire in a santa suit so I will be showing up late.

  3. mopar – Home Depot has excellent prices on name brand bulbs – the cheap ones at Target are off-brand & don’t last very long. They have names too but they cost more there than they do at HD.
