Denton, I know somebody who had a house on Clear Lake (though I never went there, know it is south of Houston on way to Galveston). Thanks for the idea about Padre Island — never went there either….
Yeah, Denton, the summers are just killers in Houston. Also, those crazy driving summer rain storms where you can’t even see a foot in front of you. In the summer, you can’t even enjoy the long days outside — too damn hot.
Dona, Padre Island a nice place to visit from Houston.
When I was in Houston on the regular I took a trip to Galveston. Not only is the memory of the great hurricane still embedded, the houses were awesome! The old houses were built to maximize airflow and cooling. Actually, Montrose would love them.
I’m not an oil refinery worker, benson. That’s not my line of work, as you damn well know. You’re such an insufferable ASS, and you know what, it’s gotten worse. I haven’t “whined” about anything other than my allergies of late. So go f*ck yourself.
Folks, there’s a new game in town and it’s called China.
They don’t actually play by the same rules as we do vis a vis industry/pollution/environment/OSHA/benefits but they are the marginal producer and the marginal price setter.
It’s like terrorism…the terrorists play by different rules.
We can remain high & mighty/idealistic/conscientious/etc or we can play to win.
The decision is ours to make it. I fear that Washington is just in the way and it’s clear that the decisions they are making now are the wrong ones in many respects.
Legion, I never realized how much water is part of our lives here until I lived in a completely landlocked place – Kansas City. I love Chicago (way more than Houston) but even though they have Lake Michigan, it is not the same as the ocean. Also, people are people but there is something very different about Texas for us Yankees. Plus I guess I just don’t really want to do anything too disruptive at this time of my life, so I associate Texas with alien/foreign city requiring too much cross cultural effort to fit in. But it is thriving, this is for sure.

I could use a solar popcorn maker right about now.

legion, panel prices have dropped dramatically. Of course China is kicking our ass there too.
But how would a panel be easy to install? A lot of talent needed there. And you have to tie it into the grid.
