  1. Just did the same exercise on XOM, DIBS (of course!).
They paid c.$7Bn in US Federal cash taxes from 2007-09. About $1Bn refund in 2009, about $4Bn in each of 2007 and 2008.

I think Ringo is probably referring to drilling credits, which benefit smaller and newer oil & gas companies much more than mature established ones. Also they encourage the drilling of wells in the US that would otherwise be uneconomic (energy security etc…)

  2. Comment on GPS….

I used GPS recently for the 1st time and it was great. Then I decided to get it again with my car rental.

It conked out (wouldn’t charge and device ran out of juice) when I was going back to the airport to go home. It was a good thing I remembered pretty much where I was going, but if you do not do a little preliminary map reading/i.e. know where you are going, you could be seriously shit out of luck if one of these things goes on the blink.

  3. Forward, DIBS. FORWARD! What part of your own words do you not understand? You’re doing the exact opposite of what you told me to do (rear view mirror). NY Case-Shiller, and I believe most other metros, is screaming “MAY DAY…MAY DAY…!!!”.

    And yes, CONfidence is up.

  4. Greetings from Orange County, California – long a bastion of conservatism. Ah, I’m feeling warm and fuzzy here.

I’ll be on the road most of this week.

I’ll check in in a few days, to see if the Montrose, Donatella, Spumoni Gardens trip is on for this weekend.

  5. DIBS, I agree with you on this. I feel like the Dems always get stuck on issues the Republicans love. Like gay marriage. Obama should come out and say he is moving it up to 1mm and in the same breath say he’s going to do a full review of corporate tax rates. Big oil pays no corp. tax at all and they fight about THIS?
