I mean the lights they put on lamp posts (and have seen them on people’s Christmas trees in recent years). Most of the lamp posts here are done in blue & white with a snowflake. They had the same thing in my home town last year. Blue lights must be cheaper.
ooooh etson, i do not like the all blue / purplish lights either. they seem more halloweeney to me. some people actually DID put them up around halloween, and one house has just left them up!!! i guess they three holidays for the price of one? christmas lights are supposed to be all red, all white, and multi colored.
i also really dont like those old school penis lights.
One other thing – what is it with the blue Christmas lights that are everywhere now? Noticed lots in TO this w/e and they were complaining about them on the BHB OT as well. They look really cold and unwelcoming, not like the traditional red / green / white.
Arkady, I’ve seen lots of otherwise productive agricultural land turned into xmas tree farms because the farmers can make more money.
Which, to be clear, is perfectly fine with me, but that’s because I’m not trying to save the world. I’m just identifying how wasteful this is, if you care about that sort of thing, and pointing out the utter futility of trying to make an impact by buying an organic tree.
I’ll definitely be checking out the book (and duly note the author’s initials).

etson, blue lights are the LEDs. Too bright for my taste. Don’t need to see the tree from the moon.
etson – I think you’re seeing Chanukah bushes, not xmas trees.

dh – Some trees have fewer allergens than others. Firs are the worst (& also the most common). Cedars & spruces are least.
Arkady did literally write the book on this.
we used to have white fake trees for christmas growing up, i always kinda sorta those were tacky.
white tree, purple chaser lights, and gaudy ass glittery plastic bows.
