Lech, the raising of FDIC limits from 40k to 100k was given as a major contributor of S&L crisis, if I recall.
VZ itself has been a greatstock of late and it still has a 5.8% yield. So has VOD (which owns about 49% of VZ wireless) and has a 6.2% yield.
