Helloooo?? Anyone still here???
Real life intervened and kept me away all afternoon, but I feel a need to catch up. What an odd and serious trip down memory lane, followed by a needed diversion to joke hour.
I do not miss the guest days, nor do I want to relive the 2009 blow up. Several of the insiders explained what happened at various times and I have blissfully forgotten all except the rift between CGar and his former friend.
One thing that was different, though, back in the guest days was the lack of an OT. I actually really objected for a while to DIBS, biff, noki, thl, brg et al during some of the early hijackings because I still wanted to discuss RE, renovations, etc. Then, of course, I couldn’t resist one day and joined in, and that was that.
Another thing was that more folks wanted to discuss RE and renovations, and, of course, there was just more of that going on. At the first end of the world party we had smokeychimp (architect), masterplvmber (duh), rh (design/reno blog), MM, and a higher % of people who were on the site for its content.
Those assholes at Grand Szechuan stopped giving me fortune cookies.
I prefer the days of the guest/anon posters. ‘Tis true.

And Etson- for some reason the Palidino campaign called me today! I had to disinfect the phone 😉
Etson- you may be a Republican but I would never believe you find Michelle Bachmann to be anything other than a- er- nutjob. From what I read, quite a few Republicans think she’s nuts.
Lech- she does. She’s just trying to make you feel good.
Don’t feel bad, ditto. We’re all going to be frustrated tomorrow and the majority of the country feels disenfranchised anyway.
Is the election tomorrow? I was chatting with the Mrs about it last night, and started telling her the whole “I hate democracy line”, just for effect of course, and I couldn’t even keep a straight face while I was saying it.
I’ll go vote, and I’ll take it seriously. I’ll actually vote for the candidate whose platform most closely approximates my own view of things.
Cuz I’m a big softie and don’t really hate democracy so much after all.
FWIW when I started going off on my anti-democracy rant I think the Mrs started looking at me like I had finally gone completely off the deep end. She’s been married to me for 7 years and still doesn’t know when I’m bullshitting for effect.
