Oct. 21 (Bloomberg) — The United Federation of Teachers asked a state court to block the New York City Department of Education from releasing performance ratings tomorrow for more than 12,000 instructors.
The union filed a petition today in New York State Supreme Court, asking a judge to prevent the release of the data, said Dick Riley, a spokesman for the union. The lawsuit cites the prospect of “irreparably damaging the professional reputations of thousands of public school teachers,†according to a copy of the document e-mailed by the union.
News organizations requested the data, including teachers’names, under freedom-of-information laws.
