“ditto, I used to be able to run a 5 minute 15 sec mile easily. now I would be lucky to run a mile no matter the time it takes. Ray lewis chasing you might drag out the speedster in you as you know what awaits if he catches you.”
You’re probably right, guys my age always overestimate their abilities based on previous performances.
>cmu, the changes to the pension system in France are going through, whether they like it or not
>cmu, I don’t think the protests having anything to do with change, the public employees want things to stay as they are
Did not say that there should not/will not be changes. Just that France has a tradition of tolerance about public protest. Here we have large marches in Washington which may or may not be effective, and not much else. Protests by definition need to affect locals to be visible and effective. When I briefly lived in Eugene, I always admired the 3-6 people who’d march every week, dodging nasty traffic, in front of the Federal courthouse.
“The problem with that show is the actor playing Henry VIII comes across as if he is flaming. Now there have been gay kings in England’s history, but Henry VIII was unlikely to be one of them.”
haha yeah – Jonathan Rhys Meyers has a bad case of gay face.

“I typed this wonderful discourse on the Irish political sophistication but lost it”
Always found it funny that Fianna Fail (peaceful nationlaist party, current Irish govt) translates as ‘warriors of destiny’ whereas Sinn Fein (terrorist party historically) translates simply as ‘Ourselves’.

Oh, and now that I think of it, protestants in Boston were a pretty riotous bunch in the 1760s-70s.

And New Paltz. Some Huguenot houses from 1690s are still standing and can be visited.
Speaking of religious freedom and nation’s founding, Paul Revere was descended from Huguenots.
