  1. donatella,
    that’s a tough one,
with the concrete pitched back to the house
    towards the drain like that.
Can you send the roof drain out to the far end of the backyard?
I know most brownstones have the roof water leading
into the main in the basement,
maybe diverting that out to the backyard will take
some water away from the overloaded French drain?

  2. “Define corruption.”

The shady take down of opponents, election rigging, graft, etc. They did it all. I’m not casting judgment on any of the of the tactics used back then to consolidate power. The political system back then was designed in a way that permitted such behavior, often legally. I just think they introduced an element to the political process in this country that continues to this day.

  3. oh yeah baby! i qualified to defer payments for my student loans for a YEAR!

grrrr tho i already filled out a money order for 130 bux. can i deposit that into my bank account and just cross out where i wrote to the US dept of education?? since they gave me another year to not have to pay back then i dont feel like sending this 130 in as that would be pointless.

  4. Legion,

I used to have French drains. Until I “designed” a paver brick patio with the help of my contractor who brilliantly executed my design, but pitching the patio toward the drain which is down three steps and right outside my kitchen door. The only one dumber than my contractor was ME. So now, everything is wonderful until we get these bizzare water events which send leaves, tree detritus (I have a monster 50-60 foot tree back there too) on top of the only drain, blocking it. Then the water fills up in the little area below the steps and outside my kitchen door.

AND THEN ENTERS MY HOUSE. I have to get this fixed. Pronto.

Define corruption. If you are talking about a group of immigrants “getting theirs”, you betcha. I have an elderly 2nd cousin, first name Walker, named after Jimmy Walker, Irish boss mayor who got his father his job so he could take care of his 12 kids during the depression. Daddy named kid Walker.

But how is this different than Vito Lopez arranging for the construction of apartment buildings for Grandma to live? Plus for all those Hasidic families with 12 kids?

  6. Istar: They also had corruption on lock
