Ishtar, you are thinking of the repeal of the so called Glass/Stegall act.
Reagan promised it to the lobbyists, but couldn’t deliver.
Clinton finally came thru after being massively bribed, along with (I think) every single senator and congressman.
The catalyst was the (then illegal) citibank purchase of travellers insurance.
CH -thanks and that’s so unfair! however the recruiter who I met with(the good one) said that people were taking HUGE paycuts across the board – it’s really immoral what Businesses have done and I know we all like to argue this back and forth here on the OT
but it really should hit home to all when people like CH or myself or others have to settle for positions that are paying SIGNIFICANTLY less than what they were making before.
“CGar, I’ve seen an episode or two of Mad Men. Missed the one to which you referred.”
It took me a while to get into it, Biff, because I found it a bit slow at first, but now I love it — one of only a couple of series I watch. I would think you’d like it.
Anyone else here watch Mad Men?
And there was a really funny line last week (OK, morbid funny, but that appeals to me): “I’d ask my secretary to do it, but she’s dead.”
Gem, Be a waitress, a seasonal worker, anything to keep your energy going and cash coming in. ANY HONEST WORK IS HONORABLE AND NOBLE. Remember that. It is funny. Getting a crapola job is sometimes very very motivating. Make lists of things you know how to do in addition to thinking through what you really WANT to do. Keep the faith. You CAN do it!!
