I know, Snappy. I have to say I’ve never read a single one of those. Just looking at the titles tells me all I need to know.
My junk reading habits are mysteries, science fiction and fantasy, and some popular authors. In science fiction and fantasy I AVOID hard scifi, with lots of futuristic tech stuff, vampires, werewolves, fairies, elves, and most dragons. In mysteries, I generally don’t like depressing stories exploring the depths of human depravity, I hate slasher/serial killer novels, werewolves, vampires,(they are everywhere) and cute little ladies in small towns solving crime. Miss Marple did it well, most of the rest of them, not so much. I happen to really like Stephen King, but he has an annoying habit of starting off really well, brilliantly even, and then writing himself into a corner at the end.
I was at Spumoni Gardens last weekend. The event? My grammar school reunion – in the old neighborhood.
OK, I’ll organize something in the near future.
I think I once told the story of my dad (Crazy Carl look-alike) and his “incident” at Spumoni Gardens.
When I was about 8 (making my dad 42) I was there with my whole family, including my sister and mom. Next to us with three guys about 18 years old, who started to loudly talk about their exploits with their girlfriends.
My father went over to them, and politely asked them to show some respect and knock it off. They complied for about 10 minutes, and then started up again.
Without missing a beat, my father got up and took on the three guys. He gave them some lumps that they are probably still nursing, and then threw them out of the place. The crowd broke into applause for my father.
I am celebrating my birthday, really celebrating on Thanksgiving, in Havana. I will have lots of pictures of me sitting in an open 1950s Cadillac convertible on the top of the passengers seat with a small parade behind me. I’ll be wearing the tiara, so rf, after Thanksgiving ok?
rob- You’re so right about old books. Nothing like it. I have some antique books, the pages are all foxed, but the old paper is beautiful and the illustrations are just wonderful.
Happy birthday Donatella and Kens!! And Kens- hitting 30 does NOT constitute a midlife crisis. Jeeez. You got about another 20 years before you claim that.
“outage lasted for about 2½ hours for millions of Facebook’s half-billion users. It began about 2:30 p.m. ET.”—– Now I know why all these people walking around streets yesterday all dazed and confused.

“I am celebrating with some old friends” — probably going to early-bird special.
Just because that’s your idea of a good time, Gramps….

kens,
If you go to spain there won’t be any jet lag issues as you’ll be getting to bed at the same time you would be if you were back in brooklyn.
Kens, if you feel a crisis turning 30, imagine how I feel turning 35!!!! Rob, so you sent a stripper to my house? What time?
Happy Birthday, babe!
Happy Birthday, Goat Boy!
Goat Boy, I agree with DeLepp and jessi on the trip. Thought you were planning a trip to Buenos Aires?
