“It’s not illegal to travel to Cuba. it is illegal for US carriers to go there. two completely different things. Same was true when I was visiting Vietnam in the 90s.”
Clarification: it’s not illegal for Americans to travel to Cuba, but it is illegal to spend money there. For practical purposes, then, it’s illegal to travel there (with certain exceptions for people with family there, or for professionals and others who first obtain a license from the Treasury Department), since obviously once you’re there you need to spend money.
I traveled to Cuba years ago — legally — as a law student, but you can’t travel there legally as a tourist. Hence the need to go through Canada or Mexico or the Caribbean to circumvent the restriction.
yes, business has been known to behave badly
and yes government should be there to protect us
but at the same time,
we have to acknowledge that big government
has a poor track record at creating
social stability while maintaining high standards
of living at the same time.
usually the more government gets involved
the more paperwork appears.
i’d love to start a business. i would grow a beard, open up some little cafe in bushwick and serve a bunch of ‘artisinal’ stuff with a high mark up. brilliant
BUsiness is in business ultimately for the shareholders. If you don’t understand this, best not to stick your nose into the discussion about business.
No, good businesses do not break laws and they respect their employees but the employees entitlements are not above those of the shareholders. As long as the business offers a product that people want and they do it ina a socially acceptable way, both the employees and the shreholders and the customers benefit.
But, make no mistake about it, businesses are in business for the benefit of the shareholders.

US Citizens are not supposed to go there. You can get permission to go if you apply for some kind of researcher/ educational/ journalist status. Somebody is flying out of the US, since it IS legal for Cuban Americans with family in Cuba to travel there unrestricted.
Re everybody else, the Cuban people at immigration are good enough not to stamp your passport.
too many long posts to read / catch up.
What’s being discussed?

If you can’t understand a post of more than 75 words, your education was probably wasted.
“Posts should be cut off at 75 words. If you can’t boil it down to 75 words or less you probably don’t understand it.”
