I enjoyed watching Meet the Press this Sunday — Colin Powell and Bill Clinton. Both were excellent. I think one of the biggest tragedies of the Bush administration was how Powell got suckered into giving that bad intelligence to the UN. I respect him as an wise, intelligent, reflective man. An adult with common sense in our public square full of clowns is a breath of fresh air. Also, Bill Clinton was excellent as well, articulating what Democrats need to do coming into November.
“The activities at the heart of what Wall Street does — selling and trading stocks and bonds, and advising on mergers — are running at levels well below where they were at this point last year”
Not good for Brownstone Brooklyn TM.
“Ms. Whitney predicts that annual revenue from Wall Street’s main businesses will drop 25 percent, to around $42 billion in 2010, from $56 billion last year.”
Wow! How much of that will be absorbed by bonuses?
“August [trading] volume was off nearly 30 percent”
Less man, more machine (high frequency trading). No wonder the Hindy Confy.
“And if banks come under pressure, all but the safest borrowers may struggle to get loans.”
Are you reading, shadow sellers?
“Many banks are barely scraping by in traditional Wall Street business.”
Ahhh, poor things!
“expected Goldman Sachs to earn $7.8 billion in 2010, a 35 percent decline from the $12.1 billion it made last year”
Why? I thought it was God’s work?
“analysts have finally started to bring their forecasts in line with the new reality”
Not good for Brownstone Brooklyn TM.
“many Wall Street firms increased their work forces in the first half of the year, before the mood shifted and worries of a double-dip recession arose. If activity remains anemic, firms could soon begin cutting jobs again.”
Ahhhh, poor things!
“We expect compensation to be down dramatically this year”
You mean bonuses?
Damn, all this on top of GMAC’s foreclosure halts and ABA’s latest tension with FASB over a mark2market resurrection (http://tinyurl.com/2849v35). It’s bad out there, man! Very baaaaaaad!
I stayed at a ‘friends’ over the weekend. I got up in the morning and went into the family room / kitchen at 10am – hey don’t judge the time, I had to feed my child.
Hostess, her husband and kids and other family members and my husband were there.
Well, an hour passes and no breakfast was offered to me (and husband). I’m HUNGRY! As a nursing woman, I need to eat. I didn’t know what to do. Should I go to the cabinets and look for cereal? I’m really shy about helping myself in other people’s homes. I don’t think it’s appropriate.
I saw a bowl of fruit on the counter and when no one was looking, snatched a banana but the fruit was fucking plastic!!!
There was a housekeeper/nanny and she didn’t offer to make anything. I thought it was rude. When people stay at my place I make sure there’s a spread on the table for them.
My husband and I said we had to go get something for the baby and went out and got/ate bagels.

lechacal,
…sounds like you’d make a perfect guidance counselor. 😉
“I bet within three days she appears with some evangelical ministers and says she was born again and saved from all that devil worship and witchcraft.”
And her followers will buy it as gospel truth, but Obama, who has been a church going Christian most of his life, has written long ago about his religious convictions, and certainly spoken about them when he ran, still is required to turn himself inside out to prove he’s not a Muslim. Even if they don’t believe he’s a Muslim, they don’t believe he’s a Christian either. At least not their kind of Christian, whatever that is.

where exactly does Texas Toast fit into the
spectrum of toasty cheese goodness?

It’s so hypocritical, as it’s all politics.
